Gnostic Luciferian Witchcraft: A Practical Guide

Introduction

This is a record as much as a guide. It shows how I, and primarily my best friend, have been practicing witchcraft for the past few years now. Like many witches, our Practice is a hybrid, an expression of our influences. It is very animistic, spirit-work centered. Our approach is a blend of Traditional Witchcraft, grimoire tradition, and a bit of ceremonial magick all filtered through a lens of Gnostic Luciferianism that has developed over time by trial and error and with the guidance of the spirits we work with. It is an evolving thing, and it is what works for us. Even if you follow this guide your practice will not end up looking exactly like ours. That’s a feature not a bug.

Preparation
Magick, behind all apparent outward forms is nothing but the enacting of Divine Will upon the substance of Divinity. We, the Divine, worship the Divine, by means of the Divine, on the Divine, from the Divine and for the sake of the Divine alone. This is the mindset we adopt as foundational to our practice. We work for the good of all beings. This is the intent from square one.

Now, speaking of intent, it is said way too often that “intention” is what witchcraft is all about, and while yes intention is especially important, critical I’d say, you can ” intend” all over the place and achieve nothing. Why? Because you sabotage your results by adopting actions that do not fit your intentions.

Do your words and actions in fact align with your intentions? Are you aligning yourself with the laws of nature? Are you working to be aligned with your environment and the spirits around you? Alignment is everything. So, examine yourself! That is the first step.

Before beginning ritual practice, one should obtain and consecrate all relevanttools and garments. Timing ritual practice and tool production considering the movements of the moon and planets, considering days and hours, are highly recommended. Use the Crooked Path by Kelden and the Grimoirium Verum (Peterson and Stratton-Kent versions) for tool production. Do not take lazy shortcuts in this process and do not change the basic underlying structure of these procedures described in the texts. There is a reason for them and if you don’t know what they are you aren’t qualified to change them! You will have no choice but to make smart substitutes for practicality.

For example, in the production of the Scirlin parchment, most do not have access to being able to kill an animal for the materials.

You will also have to alter the wordings to strip Christian baggage out. The key here is changing the aesthetic and language not the principles or structure. Take the time to learn what things are for and why. I am not going to present you with a full breakdown of this because you need to learn how to do it yourself. This material is easily accessible, often for free. The process of tool creation is as much about you and your self-work as it is about making the tools and giving them life. Every tool has its spirit. You are building a living temple. You are learning a Craft, a discipline. Treat it accordingly.

I will give you some tips to go off of what we have been doing to at least give you a direction. We prefer to wear black with red trim rather than white for our ritual wear. Black symbolizing not evil but total acceptance of all that exists as black is the absorption of all light. Red for passion, struggle, and life that we fully embrace. Given the extremely endangered nature of frankincense substituting pine resin is acceptable, nutmeg in place of mace is acceptable. If you have no choice but to buy an item rather than create it, buy it at the appropriate hour and day with zero haggling about it. This can take months, be patient. You might find yourself picking up new skills and crafts in this process. Embrace it.

Example of General Consecration:

“I conjure thee, 0 form of the instrument: by the authority of Lucifer Almighty; by the virtues of
the Stars that rule; by the virtue of the Elements; of stones and herbs; of snowstorms, winds
and thunder; that thou now obtain all the necessary power into thyself for the perfect
achievement of all our desires!”

Example of the Astrachios Prayer, which is an excellent prayer for daily use:

“Astrachios, Asac, Asacra Bedrimulael, Silat, Arabonas, Ieralehm, Ideodoc, Archarzel,
Zophiel, Blautel, Baracata, Emagro, Abrageteh, Samoel, Geburahel, Cadato, Era, Achsah, Ebmisha, Imachadel, Dama, Elamos, Izachel, Bael, Scirlin, Genium Domos!
O Morning Star, Prince of the World, who is seated above all hells and regardeth the Abyss
among them, grant unto us Thy Grace we beseech Thee, so that what we conceive in our
mind we may accomplish in our work: through Thee Sovereign ruler of all, who liveth and reigneth in eternity. Amen”

In the days leading up to a major ritual it is suggested to engage with abstinence, fasting, and prayer to psych oneself up, to purposely withhold and build up energy that is to be directed to the purpose. This isn’t about some idea of moral purity. In our understanding there is no pure or impure to ultimate reality in any moral sense. This ritual framework assumes two people, one acting as summoner, in charge of much of the speaking, and one person acting as medium, who does the actual spirit communication, if you have more people they can act as acolytes, if less than it’s all you.

I. Rite of Opening

The Opening Rite is used both on its own and as an opening for other rituals.

The structure is flexible and should be tweaked based on need. When performed as a solo rite, the first part of Laying the Compass can be omitted, and the third part Treading the Mill is replaced with a reiteration of the Invocation of the Infernal divine. This standalone version is recommended to be practiced daily. It serves several purposes: it affirms and reinforces the identification of the divine nature of the Self, it reinforces the aura, wards off parasitic spirits, it strengthens the skills of visualization and connecting intention, energy, sound, and movement, and finally it grounds and centers the practitioner preparing them for both their day and magickal work.

Laying the Compass

The ground is marked off as desired in line with magnetic lines of the earth.

Then the Stang is raised at the cardinal direction appropriate for the season and blessed as representation of the Witchlord. Finally, three circles are made around the perimeter, the first with incense to symbolize the all-encompassing presence of spirit, then water to represent the water of the abyss from which all things sprang, and finally ash to represent the impermanence of all life.

Invocation of the Infernal Divine

1.Face east in front of the altar. Form the left hand into the sign of benediction and trace an equilateral cross before you at forehead height imagining it formed of radiant darkness. Confidently affirm: “ In nomine Luciferi, et Lilith, et filius eorum Cain.”

2. Imagine a powerful dark light, or fiercely burning black flame, above your head. Using your left hand put your thumb, index, and middle finger together representing the union of the alchemical elements of sulfur, salt and mercury. Reach up and pull that burning light down to your third eye. Feel the heat of it. Confidently say “Ego”

3. Bring your hand down to the level of your groin pulling the flame down with it. Imagine the dark light penetrating down to beneath your feet into the earth. Say “Regnum.”

4. Bring your hand to your right shoulder while imagining the same light extending out form that shoulder to infinity. Say “Et Potestas.”

5. Bring your hand to your left shoulder. As you perform this motion, imagine the dark light extending from there as well. Say “Et Gloria.”

6. Put your palms together at the level of your forehead and say “In Aeternum, Amen! “ as you bring them toward the level of your solar plexus. As you perform this motion, imagine the cross of light you have formed burning brightly and solidly.

Calling of the 4 Kings

1. Extend your hands in the shape of a cross. Affirm: “As a Divine being I call out to the kings and form the pentagrams:”

2. Take a deep breath and say the following to each respective direction: To the East: Imagine a fire elemental forming before you. Point your first two fingers of the left hand outward and trace the inverted pentagram of Earth. Then punch the pentagram in the center with your fingers while strongly exhaling. “Hail Oriens, Spirit of Fire, join me here, charge my words and burn my fear .”

3. Toward the North: Trace the first line of the circle, terminating in the North. Imagine a water elemental forming before you. Using the same method as before, trace the inverted pentagram and say:” Hail Egyn, Spirit of Water, cleanse me now, carry me through and hear my vow .”

4.Toward the West: Trace the next line of the circle, terminating in the East. Imagine an air elemental forming before you. Using the same method as before, trace the inverted pentagram and say: “Hail Paymon, Spirit of Air, come to me, lift my words and hear my plea.”

5. To the South: Holding your fingers pointing outward, trace the third line of the circle, terminating in the South. Imagine an earth elemental forming before you. Next, using the same method as before, trace the inverted pentagram and say: “Hail Amaymon, Spirit of Earth, I call to thee, ground my work and make it be.”

6. Next, draw the fourth line of the circle back to east, then bring your palms back together at the level of your forehead and say “Before me Oriens, behind me Paymon, to my right hand Amaymon, to my left hand Egyn. “ as you bring them toward the level of your solar plexus. Then, visualize the four figures bearing weapons standing guard at each cardinal point: “For about me doth the pentagrams flame, and within me fire from whence it came! Amen”

Treading the Mill

1. Raise hands in the sign of Baphomet. Say:

“Old goat god of the Wise, Initiator, and first born, Of Serpent fire, awake, arise! By blade, by bone, by horn! “*

2. Begin circling the compass widdershins, maintaining focus at the center of the circle, chanting:

“O Bearer of the mystic light, Come ye as the fire burns By the secret ways of Night The witches’ mill about thee turns!”*

Repeat until trance ensues then begin work.

*Quoted from “The Devil’s Dozen” by Gemma Gary

II. Rite of Confession

Confession isn’t a ritual step to skip. It has very ancient roots, long before Christianity got ahold of it. It’s an emotional release. It’s a proverbial wiping of one’s karmic slate. It’s a tool that protects the witch from malicious spirits who may attempt to use prior acts against them. Add an appropriate visualization here, this one, inspired by a Tantric meditation, is useful. Visualize a cleansing fire that starts at one’s feet and gradually consumes you and everything around you, every narrative you attach to yourself in every timeline should be consumed, leaving nothing but pure stillness, a layer of ash on the ground that blows away in the breeze.

“O Witch Lord and Lady, before Thee do we confess our failings and take ownership of them in Thy presence. For we have acted countless times from ignorance in this and every realm. We have failed many times to be fully present, we have not treated all of creation, every spirit and person with due reverence in every moment. We have committed every act before Thee by pride and avarice, wrath and idleness, by gluttony and debauchery. We have cast suspicions and judgments unto our selves and others. We have let ourselves be prisoner to our own fears and wallowed in loathing. We come before Thee now, stripped naked to publish our sins, so that none may have advantage over us, none may accuse us, for we are laid bare for all to see.

Yet we call to the Highest, and speak of our successes as we step into our power. For we have been a light to those around us. We have lived in the moment and seen Divinity in all things. We have given reverence to all that exists. We have acted with humility and charity, kindness and diligence, shown strength and temperance. We have shown compassion and been a refuge for others even as we strive to live without shame or regret. Yes, we come before Thee that none may accuse us, like Thee O Mother we are full to overflowing with potency. We stand naked and shining, radiant and defiant like Thee O Morning Star… and like Thee… again we rise!”

III. Rite of Ablution

This is a ritual wash, the intent is again not about moral purity but about cleansing oneself of ignorance. We see ignorance, the illusion of separation from the Divine, as the root of much of human suffering, when ignorance is stripped away, we are open and seeing reality nakedly, we are aligned to the Divine Will to the utmost. The water is given a dash of consecrated salt, the words are said, then we wash face and hands three times.

“O Morning Star, among the highest Aeons, bless and sanctify this water, fill it with your light that it may be healthy for both body and soul and align its spirit with our intent. Accord us so that we may be purified of all error and stand cleansed before thee! Amen”

IV. Evocation of Scirlin

Scirlin acts as a messenger spirit, an intercessor, an opener of doors. Very useful when calling spirits. You should have done the work of making and consecrating the pact with Scirlin if you are going to call on him. Make a point of welcoming any spirit successfully summoned and offer incense accordingly.

To be chanted:

“HELOY + TAU + VARAF + PANTHON + HOMINORCUM + ELEMIATH + SERUGEATH +.
ON + CASILY”

V. a. General Evocation

Evocations often need to be repeated, take your time with this, give it some breathing space. It becomes a chant slowly building in intensity. Typically, I am repeating this evocation up to seven times, while my ritual partner chants enns if available for the spirit. Enns are a modern invention which we affectionately refer to as a demon’s phone number.

They are a string of syllables that like any words of power are excellent for trance induction. Some people like them, others hate them. Use what works.

At the very least you want the spirits name and sigil present when summoning. Make the environment conducive and welcoming for its presence with things that correspond to it. Do your homework here. We typically do use a bit of blood via diabetic kit, anointing the sigil as a means of charging and activation, visualizing the life force of the blood moving into the sigil. Offerings to spirits should be appropriate to the spirit and given in exchange for service. Treat spirits from a standpoint of love and respect and drop any baggage or preconceptions you have regarding them. Like receiving an honored guest. You’ll get way better results that way. However, spirits are not your best friends. They are teachers and guides. They can challenge you. Some spirits are dangerous. Know how to banish and cleanse. They are not Pokemon to collect. You are far better off focusing on building connections with a few spirits than trying to summon them all.

The blanks here are to be filled with the spirit’s name obviously but feel free to describe the spirit and its attributes as well to better align with it.

To be chanted:

“By the names of Lucifer, the morning star, Lilith, the lunar fire, and Cain, first of Witch-blood, we call, evoke, and conjure thee, _____. In the name of he whose name is rebellion, whose cause is liberation, come forth! In the name of she who knew and spoke the Ineffable Name, at which being heard the elements are overthrown, the air is shaken, the sea runneth back, the fire is quenched, the earth trembleth, and all the hosts of the celestials, terrestrials, and infernals are confounded, come forth. By the name of he who first transgressed in the flesh and carved the Crooked Path of the Witch, come forth. Come thou, O ______, forthwith, from any parts of the world. Come thou in peace and joy here to this circle!”

V. b. General Spellwork

Any general spellwork such as rites of release, manifestation, holiday specific rituals, curses and hexes, etc are done here, enlisting the spirits present.

VI. The Housel

We perform the Housel at full moons and holidays, it is a rite of communion with each other and the spirits we work with. When the Housel is performed a much less targeted version of the general evocation is used, one where all the spirits we work with are called upon to be honored.

For the rite itself we currently favor a nice blackberry wine and I make the Sabbat bread from “The Crooked Path”, an excellent honey oat bread. The wording is quoted from “Besom, Stang and Sword” by Chris Orapello and Tara Love Maguire. One blesses the bread and wine, each participant breaks their piece in half and offers half to the spirits and consumes the other. After the initial bread and wine, the wine is refilled, and a toast is made.

Communion

“This bread forged from the earth, a sacrifice of the land itself. May it fill us with life and sustenance. Eat of it, eat of the land and be as one. I sacrifice this life to the Witch Father, the Witch Lord. I dedicate this death to his name, so we may walk within his wild power. This wine, forged from the earth, A sacrifice by the land itself. May it fill us with life and sustenance. Drink of it, drink of the land, and be as one. I sacrifice this life to the Dark Mother, the Witch Queen. I dedicate this death to her name, so we may know her unending Mystery.”

The Toast

“A drink for the Witch King and Queen of the Sabbat!
A drink for the mighty dead and those who have gone before.
A drink for the blessings we have received and for those yet to come.
A drink for friendship and a drink for life.
A drink for love and a drink for joy.
And finally a drink for you and a drink for me.”

VII. Revelry

I was uncertain what to call this step or even whether it should be considered an actual ritual step but it always occurs in our rites. It developed spontaneously during our practice and I wouldn’t feel right without giving it formal recognition. We affectionately call it “vibing.” What it is is space, a place without firm structure for release, meditation, prayer, dance, co-regulatory exercises, whatever feels intuitively right in the moment. A moment of unity and a space to reground and allow energies to dissipate naturally before formally closing the rite.

VIII. License to Depart

Do not omit this step. Whether one still feels the presence of spirits or not, always thank them for their aid.

Say:

“Ite in pace ad loca vestra et pax sit inter vos redituri ad mecum vos invocavero, in nomine
Luciferi, et Lilith, et filius eorum Cain. Amen”

Devotional Prayers

As supplemental material I will add some example prayers to be used with offerings in regular devotional practice.

“O Lucifer, Divine Flame, we give thanks for Thy blessings.
By the light of Thy glory we rejoice that Thou hast shown us our wholeness.
We pray to Thee to keep pouring for us from the cup of knowledge, wisdom and compassion.
We ask of Thee to protect us from stumbling into Error and help us work to the good of all
beings.
We invoke Thee Lord, that as expressions of Divine Nature, we may wield the sword of
discernment, let us cut down illusion and see clearly.
Prince of the World, thou who hast shown us where we are from, who we are, and where we
are to return, we Know, we are the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory, in eternity.
Amen”

“Ama Lilith, blessed Wisdom
In Thy compassion I take refuge
In Thine arms my pain is healed
In Thy passion my heart is set afire
In Thy strength my strength is revealed.
Amen”

Musings of a Modern Mystic: Witchcraft is Political

It has been one year, two months and 20 days since I have sat down to write a blog.

I have not stopped writing; I write posts on my personal page, and the NR fb page. I have also worked on some writing projects.

The blog felt like it needed to rest.

Like it needed to be in chrysalis as badly as I did.

Emerging is scary, emerging in a new form, scarier still.

But here I am with my first blog in an awfully long time to talk about a topic that is much overdue.

A topic I have discussed many times in comments, or a few sentences here and there on the page.

As I move and shift this space to a Collective of writers, instead of just myself, I am inspired more than ever to push the limits. I am inspired to talk about what nobody wants to talk about, or topics that will surely get me trolled.

Bring it on, I say.

I am not here to make you comfortable, and I am done trying to have comfortable conversations.

Comfort gets us nowhere; it will only bring stagnation.

So, what is it exactly that I have to say that is going to get everyone in a tizzy?

I don’t often make generalized or absolute statements, there are simply too many variables and moving parts to any equation in this vast universe that I am careful what I say and how I say it.

This, however, needs to be spoken as an absolute.

Here it goes:

Witchcraft is political.

Witchcraft. Is. Political.

WITCHCRAFT IS POLITICAL.

I can hear it now, the cries and whimpers like, and I am using direct past quotes that have been said to me:

“Don’t bring politics into my Craft!”

“I don’t read your work to read about politics and social issues. Please don’t become *that*.”

“Witchcraft is not political, humans are. We don’t need politics here.”

Privilege.

P R I V I L E G E.

It’s privilege to be a Witch and say that you are not political, to ignore injustices because they “don’t affect you”.

Witchcraft is now and will always be political.

When I use the word political, I am not talking about democracy, per se. Nor am I talking about the United States’ 2 party system that has f*cked us all. This is not Democrat and Republican.

I am talking about what being a Witch, calling oneself a Witch means.

It is truly Revolutionary to call yourself a Witch.

We stand for the marginalized, the outcasts, the downtrodden, the misfits, and the weirdos.

AND WE ALWAYS HAVE!

Activism, Social Issues, Human & Civil Rights, Allyship, Anti-racism, Anti-ableism (and more!) are all pre-requisites to being a Witch.

“You are gatekeeping! How dare you tell me how to be a Witch!”

Is asking you, or telling you, rather, to be a decent human being gatekeeping?

Is it REALLY?!

I want you to think about that long and hard if your immediate reaction was/is that I am gatekeeping.

Ask yourself why you feel the way you do?

Is requesting human decency gatekeeping?

If you answer yes, then your issue is far deeper and greater than I can address here.

So, as they say, “not my circus, not my monkeys”.

Witches may have been hidden in history—even hid ourselves and moved in silence, but we got sh*t done.

We weren’t afraid to get our hands dirty.

Some of us still aren’t.

It was the Wise Woman, Man and Person who lived on the edge of the forest communing with nature and plant Spirits, carrying deep rooted herbal and plant knowledge that were Healers in days past.

It was the Healer who was shunned for knowing too much about plants that would help a Woman/Femme deal with unwanted pregnancy in a safer manner than some of her/their other options. Or help heal a Soldier’s war wounds, or gout.

It was the unsuspecting Granny who went to Church every Sunday, who knew Psalms like the back of her hand and whipped up the most glorious Kitchen Magick you ever had seen. Her prayers worked like she had a direct line to God.

To deny the power and role of the Witch is to douse our history in toxic positivity.

Many of us found our way to the Craft because we were met with injustice and/or adversity of some kind, and we needed to take our power back.

To be a Witch is to be Sovereign, without a doubt.

Then I think about this Tweet (one that I have shared on the page before) and I am left wondering:

Are we meant to be Sovereign AND in Service (to Magick)  at the same time?

Why else would we have or collect all this knowledge, and even though I hate the word power?

Why not use it for the greater good?

It is time we decolonized the Craft.

There are too many people who call themselves Witch and turn the other cheek when they see oppression and continue to benefit from systems put in place long ago instead of smashing said system.

We first need equality, then we need equity and finally we will find liberation.

We have a silent oath to uphold when walking this path.

We have an obligation to fight deep in the trenches so that the systems harming us can be destroyed.

If you are not willing to pushback against the status quo, what are you even doing here?

Are you even a Witch, or are you a WINO (Witch In Name Only)?

Witchcraft requires action, to be a Witch requires action; just like the Magick we cast.

Your intentions may be well and good, but unless you act on them, they mean nothing.

Silence is compliance.

Nobody said this would be easy, but it is worth it.

The freedom, strength and courage I have found through Witchcraft and living my life as a Witch cannot be put into words for, they do it no justice.

Blessed Are the Witches, the Oathkeepers, the Torchbearers and the Balancers of Scales.

A CALL TO ACTION: The Rise of the Feminist Witch

Oracle

“I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is: I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat.”

Rebecca West

This blog was inspired by a most unlikely source, Breitbart.

If you don’t know what Breitbart Media Corporation is, then you have not been paying attention the last 24 months; during Trump’s campaign, and now through his Presidency, far-right media organizations are on the rise, Breitbart is the King of them all.

The article, linked here, warns of the increasing numbers of Feminist Witches, and how we are a threat to the President because of our “public hexes”.

I am not quite sure after reading the article multiple times what he was most offended over: Feminism and Witchcraft or the fact that he believes the President is being hexed?

First thing first, Feminism and Witchcraft have *always* gone hand in hand, this isn’t anything new.

And, it shouldn’t be anything shocking.

Of course, we have Witches in the community who are Men, genderqueer, gender fluid and gender neutral, fact is, the majority are Women and always have been.

So, why are we focusing on the Feminist part?

Does the concept really bother people THAT much?

Witchcraft is about knowledge of Self and the worlds around us (physical and Spirit).

It’s about Magick, duality, polarity, healing and hexing, personal choice and responsibility, and, in many cases, individual sovereignty.

It’s about illumination, rebellion, and breaking the status quo; the Craft is a lot of things before it’s a “Feminist thing”.

We are nearing 2018 and Feminism is still an ideology people are terrified of and consider extreme, and/or dangerous—dare I say, people are more scared of Feminism than they are of Witchcraft.

How fucked is that?

Now, let’s go on ahead and talk about this public hexing nonsense; that’s what it is, nonsense.

I applaud those who decided to go against the system and (attempt to) harm but, all they did was draw unnecessary attention, and the wrong attention at that.

Everyone who has ever worked baneful Magick knows that it loses its effectiveness if spoke about; not only was this mass hexing spoke about, people were livestreaming it.

“To Know, To Dare, To Will, To Keep Silent.”

You don’t talk about hexes.

While on topic, we must acknowledge Trump’s base: far-right, vastly uneducated, Christians.

Regardless of how you and I feel about their God, there are billions of people in this world who believe that narrative and take it on as their personal truth; they have created an egregore.

Egregores HAVE power.

So here are these Witches hexing the President, in public, and countering those intentions are the intentions and willpower of Christians.

It’s a never-ending battle of wills.

They do not call Witches cunning for no reason; we must be more calculating and stealthy in our response and action. This does not mean silence, it means we must think things all the way through before reacting.

The real reason there has been such a rise in Feminism has nothing to do with the Craft, it has to do with the Government amping up its assault on Women, POC and the LGBTQ communities.

Nasty Women worldwide are hearing the war cries of their Sisters and coming to her aid; they hear the war cries of everyone oppressed by this Patriarchal system and come to their aid; through this warrior process many do find the Craft, and the truth and power that lies here but it isn’t the Craft itself that draws them in.

We come when we are called because we are needed, because it’s instinct.

You see Trump has given permission for misogyny, racism, sexism and classism to run rampant due to his own actions; his rise to power has awakened those with like minds and given them courage.

However, the Divine Feminine awakening has caused the same thing to occur: the rise of the rebellious Woman–a Woman with a purpose, and without fear.

We are hearing the cries of Hekate, Lilith, Kali, Baba Yaga, Babalon, Persephone, Demeter, Hel, Ishtar, Inanna, and all the other deities and Archetypes who refuse to bow down—this is our call to action.

Whether it happens in the form of signing petitions, protesting, counseling survivors of abuse and trauma, healing the generational wounds of your tribe, or simply helping a Sister or Brother in need, we are being forced to take up arms and the call is deafening.

This is not a time for us to cower down in meek submission, or give in to fear; we must tap into our inherent power, our Serpentine knowledge and FIGHT.

Most of our work is done, and always has been done, in the shadows—this should be no different.

Enough with the public talks of hexing, and spells, we must go underground with those aspects of our Craft.

But, paradoxically, we also must make ourselves known now more than ever; known to our fellow Witches, known to the system that wants to take us down, known to the world who thinks we don’t exist, or worse, mocks us.

We must show them that our silence does not equate our complaisance but rather, our silence is to be feared for there is a rumbling in our chests, and a fire in our Souls that will not be denied.

We will reclaim all that has been taken from us and destroy anything and anyone who tries to stop us.

We are the Divine Feminine Rising, and you will hear our cries.

We are the ancestors of the Witches you killed, and we have come for justice.

RESIST.

SUCCUBUS: How I Discovered I Was a Sexual Vampyr

katerina-plotnikova-2

Image: Katerina Plotnikova

“Sex is an emotion in motion.”

Mae West

When people hear the word Succubus they automatically think of Lilith, and from there the opinions split; on one side, we have those who think Succubi are nothing more than Women and She-Devils who are out to abuse, manipulate, and feed off unwilling, and unknowing participants. On the other hand, we have those who understand energy Vampyrism (in all its forms) and that many of us apply a code of ethics and morality to our lifestyle.

If I can go off track for a second and refer to my blog about Psychic Vampyrism (a trait I also carry).

From my experience, not all Succubi can feed on both Psychic debris/energy as well as sexual energy. We each seem to be very particular about what we feed on, and how we do it.

There are also Sanguine Vampyrs who incorporate blood but I will not get into that because a.) I am not Sanguine and therefore don’t feel comfortable talking about their lifestyle and b.) Sanguine’s are secretive like no other because of the stigma attached to their practice. You think Sex Vamps have it bad, try being a “blood sucking Vamp” and it gets a lot worse.

They don’t have some weird fetish with blood, at least not generally speaking, they just happen to receive energy that way. I look at it like this, if their participant is willing and not being abused, then no one is in any position to judge adults partaking in taboo acts. I think this goes for all alternative lifestyles.

I feel like my entire fucking life is taboo, and that is why I try so hard to see all points of view no matter how radical, or archaic they seem to me.

Anyhoo…

I talked about Psychic Vampyrism getting a bad rap, and that many of us are truly misunderstood healers.

Of course, as with every group of people, there are good ones in the bunch and there are bad ones in the bunch, you can’t clump us all together. I would not clump all Luciferians, or Satanists together, nor do I clump all Witches together. I know that while we may have things in common we are still very much individuals in every way, and our experiences, no matter how parallel, are subjective, too.

I bring up Psychic Vampyrism because just like them, Succubi either generate complete fascination, or total disdain. Again, completely misunderstood.

I can’t speak for every one out there, duh, and I say that frequently; I just want to tell my story because I get asked questions about this all. the. time.

I am certain some of what I write will raise eyebrows but fuck it. Right?

When I say that I have always been connected to sexual energy, I mean it quite literally.

I remember, and my Mom has backed it up (how embarrassing) that I was masturbating at age 4, and very much in tune with my body. It was much more than just “curious touch”. I remember reaching orgasm at age 6, and from then on nothing was really the same; it’s like a switch flipped.

Some kids had their blankets, and favorite toys, while I masturbated for comfort, insomnia, and as I quickly found out, energy.

I know how this sounds, and I can hear the “you need fucking therapy” comments already.

I have been to therapy, and had many breakthroughs. To be clear, I was not shown how to masturbate, and was not a victim of sexual abuse until I was 8 going on 9; looking back on it and drudging it up in countless therapy sessions as mentioned, the abuse didn’t victimize me.

In a sense, it fascinated me but also made me feel angry and dirty; emotions I couldn’t reconcile until I was older and understood what consent was. Without consent, it’s assault. No one at that young of an age should be experiencing sexual touch with any partner; it should, for obvious reasons, be a solo act. Children are off limits, to everything. Parents should talk to their children about healthy touch and experiencing their own bodies, and not shaming them for it. Talk to any Doctor and they will say, masturbation is normal (probably not at such a young age as myself, but it is normal and nothing to be worried about).

To the surprise of many, including myself, I didn’t lose my virginity until I was 18. When I was in High School I was going through so much at home, both mundane and Magickally related that boys and sex were just not on my mind like they were my friends’. I had crushes but, they were based on quirks I saw or because a guy was smart, not because he was hot, popular or a good lay.

Once I had sex though, it was as if I had opened Pandora’s Box.

I was not shy, or timid, even during my first time; I remember it hurting so bad that it turned me on even more; the very beginning of my journey down the Masochist rabbit hole.

I enjoyed being dominated but also fighting for dominance myself and afterwards all I could think was, “This is one time, and one guy, imagine what else is out there.”

For many years, I unknowingly was feeding every time I would have a sexual encounter, which was frequent. Sex made me feel empowered, and strong but there were some partners that made me feel heavy; I was taking on their demons and didn’t even know it.

It was not until I encountered a fellow Succubus and she showed me the ropes did I understand that not all partners should be consumed, and not all partners are worthy of us; while Succubi feed off their partner’s life force, their partner also gets a “high” from being in contact with us. Our energy is like no other and often we will hear people say, “I don’t know why, I am just so attracted to you.” We also get comments about how comforting our homes and bedrooms can be.

Therefore, many Succubi are irresistible to their targets when they really put their intentions behind it.

By the way, the consumption of a partner is not just energy wise, either, it’s literal. You should not consume a partner’s vaginal secretions, or semen unless you know for sure you can handle all that comes with it. When we take in their bodily fluids either orally or through our genitals, we are taking in their life force; unless you have a filter set up, you will absorb the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I did not have a filter for the entire time I was having sex; so from ages 18-29 I was having sex freely, wildly, and in a way only a youth with no worries could fuck.

Every single one of those encounters came back to bite me in the ass.

I started to have dreams that were not dreams at all but flashes of memory, but not my own—the memories of people I slept with. I was having fears that made no sense, and began to have health issues that also made no sense. I had taken in too much bad energy without transmuting it to be beneficial, and it caused an Auric tear that allowed a lot of negative debris to come in.

I sought out my Sister Witch who is the Succubus mentioned earlier, and she helped me harness my power and then, I became celibate.

Makes sense, huh? A Succubus being celibate…

But, I had no choice.

I had to clean out all the psychic and sexual debris that I took on, and I had to heal the wounds created in childhood, and young adulthood; I also had to focus on myself because I was at the peak of my Spiritual Awakening.

In 2013 I stopped having sex, and for 1 year and 1 day, I did not even masturbate; I truly needed a full detox of all sexual energy because I had abused it, and in turn it abused me.

When I began to play with sexual energy again it was entirely different; I started with my own, obviously. Masturbation is one of the most efficient ways for us to get energy, and even though it is not considered Vampyrism, as you are using or recycling your own life force, it is something we can and should do in times of drought, so to speak. It is also a guaranteed way to make sure we are not taking in negative energy.

After I harnessed my own, newly awakened Shakti charged energy, I began to incorporate other’s.

This was done through long distance feeding, and usually through synchronized masturbation or, in a few cases the targets were actively engaging in sexual intercourse, and they allowed me to tap in, and feed. The most efficient way for us to get energy is obviously through sexual intercourse, or engaging in sexual acts ourselves but we can be creative with our feeding, too.

For me, it seems that I inherently take on, or seek out negative energy in other people; when I studied my Irish heritage, I discovered my Sin-eating ability and I think it connects to my Succubi side.

Sin eating was a practice that originated in Southern England but quickly spread throughout the UK. Usually a dying or recently deceased person would transfer their sins into a loaf of bread and pint of ale; the Sin-eater would come eat the bread, drink the ale taking on the sins of the dead, and allowing the person to be granted access to Heaven. For more history on this practice click here.

Succubi are the embodiment of all that is carnal and primal within us; she reflects the wild side of our sexual nature, and true empowerment through sexual acts. She shows us not to be ashamed by our desires, and deviations but to embrace them.

The Succubus is a misunderstood healer, a stigmatized and demonized Woman; someone who knows exactly what she wants sexually.

In many ways, the Succubus is the ultimate Feminist.

For these facts alone she is feared.

This is why Lilith is our Mother.

Tips for the Modern Witch, Part Two

“You are one thing only. You are a Divine Being. An all-powerful Creator. You are a Deity in jeans and a t-shirt, and within you dwells the infinite wisdom of the ages and the sacred creative force of All that is, will be and ever was.”

Anthon St. Maarten

I am a person who likes to observe, and through my observations I have found that people want to know how to incorporate Magick into their everyday life; how can they make Ancient techniques practical in this modern world?

The texts out there are great as far as information goes but how do you APPLY all of that? How do you bring real Magick into your life?

It’s rather simple, really.

If I were not an insanely (literally, insane) creative person, I don’t think I would have come up with some of the tips/ideas that I have; not all of them are original ideas, they have been tweaked but the inspiration will be sourced and linked.

Magick is complicated but I think we overcomplicate it when it comes to practice, and application.

The first tip is kind of silly, I admit it but it works.

NAIL POLISH: I know, I know, you are thinking what in the fuck does this have to do with Magick? Well, this tip is two-fold. First, color therapy is real; not only are specific colors associated with our Chakras and Auras, colors themselves are associated with our brains. Psychologically speaking there is a connection between thoughts, stimulation and decision making and the colors around us. There is also a connection to color and energy; color is energy. Here  is a link that goes further into color and the brain.

Choose a color associated with a Chakra, or goal. Example: Purple and gold would be great colors for abundance, success, strength, connecting with Angels and prophecy. Purple is associated with the Third Eye and gold is associated with your Sacral and Solar Plexus Chakras.

The second part of this is, you can wear a color associated with a specific Magickal working. Say you have done a truth Spell; paint your nails blue beforehand (blue associated with the Throat Chakra and speaking truth). When you are writing your spell, and mixing your herbs/dressing your candle, you are infusing everything you touch with the truth energy. All because you painted your nails blue.

I know it sounds absolutely ridiculous but it really works. You are then connected to the Spell while the polish is on. Another, perhaps better example: say you want to bring love, lust and passion back into your relationship, or in your life; follow all of the steps listed but with a fiery red nail polish color instead of blue.

The general rule is, whatever colors correspond with Candle Magick (see below) would be the same for nail polish Magick. It works! Seriously.

White: Spiritual Blessings, Purity, Healing, Peace, Attracting Love

Pink: Attraction, Romance, Clean Living, Reconciliation

Red: Love, Affection, Sexual Passion (Sacral Chakra), Body Vigor (Chi, Life Force, Pranic energy, etc) Luck and Energy

Orange: Changing Plans, Opening the Way, New Roads, Prophetic Dreams

Yellow: Devotion, Prayer, Rewards, Happiness

Green: Money, Gambling Luck, Business Success, Good Harvest, Steady Employment

Blue: Peace, Harmony, Marital Fidelity, Joy, Healing, Truth

Purple: Mastery, Power, Ambition, Success, Control

Brown: Court Cases, Mediations, Neutrality, The Natural World and Animals

This is an excerpt from a past blog of mine on the Simplicity of Magick. Click here to read more.

The idea of nail polish Magick leads me to my next tip, and while I am a huge advocate for using herbs in as many hygiene and household products as we can, this is focusing on lip products.

HERBAL INFUSED LIP PRODUCTS: I recently bought a lightly tinted, super glossy and smooth Alkanet/Mint Lip Balm.

Alkanet is primarily used for dye, hence it being used for the tint, but it has properties like all herbs! In Hoodoo traditions, Alkanet is used in games of chance, to bring good fortune in matters of business, and love. When made into a lip balm, it allows the words you speak to bring you good luck; you can use the product during spell work but also on a day to day basis.

Mint is good for breaking hexes, jinxes and to undo the tricks of an enemy; perfect combination with Alkanet when you are trying to bring good fortune into your life.

Other herb associations that are good lip products are Cardamom; this will allow your words to be sweet. Which is good for court cases, when speaking to a lover or boss and the situation requires your words to be delicate and not forceful. Cinnamon is another example; this is good for making friends, and connections, it also allows your words to be sweet, but it has a protective, and even defensive property to it. Cinnamon can add a fire element to your words, and it is known to naturally ward off bad intentions and “evil” Spirits.

The next tip was one that I thought sounded crazy (even mocked it on the page) until I tried it.

SALT ON YOUR CARPETS AND IN YOUR LAUNDRY: I shared an article and I thought all the tips were good but, I thought, salt on the carpet? So, two weeks ago, I added a half pound of Pink Himalayan Salt to my regular carpet deodorizer, mixed it all up, enchanted the finished product and went to town sprinkling it all over my carpets!

The change in energy was not only tangible, it was immediate. I let the mix sit on my carpets for about 20 minutes or so, and then I vacuumed it all up. The trick is to make sure you empty your vacuum immediately afterwards and get the garbage bag that contains the dirt OUTSIDE to the trash.

I thought well, if this works with carpets, what else could it work with? Then it popped up on my newsfeed: mix salt with your laundry! Now, you only want to add a small amount (about a teaspoon) to your laundry, and make sure to use fine, granulated Himalayan Salt and not the chunky stuff.

What I do is add the granulated salt to baking soda, enchant it, and keep it next to my washer machine. It not only gets any odors out of the clothes, sheets, and towels (or whatever else I am washing), it gets out the bad and/or stagnant energy, too.

This leads me to one of my favorite blogs on being a Modern Witch. This is how to cleanse your clothes with sage, but also how to CHARGE your clothing with protection power!

My final tip for today is one that I think everyone needs to adopt as a practice of theirs.

TAPESTRIES: I don’t know if this is strictly my Taurus Moon speaking but I love the ambiance of tapestries hanging on my walls; it also beats painting. Haha. Seriously though, tapestries can add not only color to your space but they add energy, too! I had for a very long time an OM tapestry hanging up, and it added the OM vibration to my space.

I now have a round, white and blue Mandala on my Southern Wall; this adds a fantastic, light, energy because one of the colors associated with the Southern direction is white. I also have a Shiva tapestry in front of my East facing window, and an Astrological wheel, and Elephant Tree of Life on my West facing wall. My North wall has a collection of personal items, and shelves of all my crystals as this direction represents Earth. Here is a resource for direction correspondences.

These simple but effective tips will add energy, serenity, power, and Sacred intentions to any Modern Witch’s life. The times may have changed but we have not, we simply adapt.

Blessed Are The Witches.

Medicine and Magick: The Chronically Sick Witch

“Miraculously recover or die. That’s the extent of our cultural bandwidth for chronic illness.”

S. Kelly Harrell

An UPDATE  on my story.

I want to talk about a topic that is extremely personal and close to my heart; it was after reading an article similar to this the other day that I realized I had something to say on the matter, too. I allowed myself to collect my thoughts over the last two days, making sure I am clear in what I want to say and how I want to make my point.

I have a feeling that this blog will resonate with many, and give new hope to people who otherwise have lost it. I will link you to the article that inspired me at the bottom.

This piece is about Chronic Illness and how it does or does not affect one’s Magick; I am bringing this topic up and discussing it because I am plagued by Chronic health issues.

Let me first define Chronic Illness or Disease: “A chronic disease is one lasting 3 months or more, by the definition of the U.S. National Center for Health Statistics. Chronic diseases generally cannot be prevented by vaccines or cured by medication, nor do they just disappear”.

Some examples of Chronic Illness include but are not limited to: “The leading chronic diseases in developed countries include (in alphabetical order) arthritis, cardiovascular disease such as heart attacks and stroke, cancer such as breast and colon cancer, diabetes, epilepsy and seizures, obesity, and oral health problems. Each of these conditions plague older adults in the US (and other developed nations)”. Note: Age has nothing to do with it, in my opinion.

Some other Chronic Illnesses that I am referring to are auto immune diseases such as Lupus, Hashimoto’s Disease, Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Syndrome; let’s not forget diseases like Depression, Bipolar Disorder, even Asthma.

These conditions affect millions of people, primarily in developed countries, and there are so many theories as to why.

I like to read threads of comments, I find that it gives me a good idea of where the world has shifted as a collective. I know that “it’s just Social Media” but it’s a good indicator of the state of our planet; watching the Trending topics will allow you to see a pattern that is used when mainstream media wishes to distract us from something bigger, from something actually worth reporting, which seems to be more and more common these days.

Anyways, on a particular thread I saw a comment that has played over and over in my head since and it read:

“If you are truly spiritually aware and spiritually awakened then you do not need to be on medications, you will also not need any substances to assist you. When your mind and Spirit are truly in tune, your body will be in perfect balance”.

I personally believe the opposite; I think the more spiritually aware we become, the higher in consciousness we go, the more our bodies and minds begin to feel the symptoms. I think that Occultists, Witches, and Spiritualists in general are prone to depression and anxiety (even just social anxiety) because we see the world differently, we ARE different and society is quick to point out just how different we are.

I also believe deeply that there is a connection between consciousness and past life wounds with chronic conditions.

As for substances, drugs and such in regards to Magick: it’s a personal choice.

Am I condoning drug use? No, I am not but I am standing up for one’s right to choose, even if that choice is harmful to themselves—they will either learn their lesson or they will die, it’s simple. I have never been into “hard drugs” and I don’t judge those who are. I did cocaine a bit when I was in my early twenties, and haven’t touched it since.

I have tried and loved hallucinogenic mushrooms a few times (acid scares me) and everything else is too hard for my taste.

In regards to weed, it’s part of my everyday life and Magick; I am a true advocate for it, and I have seen the health benefits first hand, not just in myself but in others, too.

When my Mom was going through Chemotherapy and Radiation for Breast Cancer and her mouth tasted like metal and she couldn’t eat, it was smoking a bowl or two that allowed her body to calm, her appetite to come back and for a brief moment she was taken away from the pain she had become accustomed to.

My personal experiences and chronic health conditions are vast; I had a full hysterectomy due to a uterine fibroid, cervical cancer, ovarian cysts and endometriosis at 27 (now 33).

I experienced a Soul Wound and massive Auric tear at this time because it was such trauma and changed who I was as a person, or so I thought at the time.

I mean, a Witch in her Maiden and Mother years harnesses her power from her Womb and her monthly blood; all of that was taken from me, and it took me years to come to grips with the fact that my Magick now comes from the darkness of the Crones, and I had no choice but to adapt.

I then faced the true reality that we can draw from all three phases of our Womanhood; at any given time we can be Maiden, Mother or Crone–think about it.

From this point my “little pains” I had experienced since my late teens could no longer be ignored.

I had a grand mal seizure in August 2013 and it was at that exact moment that my Spiritual awakening kicked into overdrive, and I have not been the same since.

Two months later in October is when I took my vow of celibacy; a personal, not permanent vow to myself.

It was once believed that Seers would have seizures induced by Hekate to test their will, and to invoke Her power into them. I will link you to the story at the bottom.

I have never since, and never before had a seizure, I do however get severe muscle spasms and ‘twinges’ when a vision is about to occur; this happens during waking or sleeping hours. And, yes, I went through more neurological tests than I can count and the only thing they could find is that I have an extremely overactive mind, and I use parts of my brain more than the average person. There were and are no defects to my brain, no nerve damage, nothing.

I have been diagnosed with Bipolar 2 (have not faced a manic or severe depressive episode, the focus of my “disorder” is on mood swings), Anxiety (general, social and agoraphobia), ADD, PTSD, Fibromyalgia, Hashimoto’s Disease (a form of Hypothyroidism), Chronic Pain and Fatigue Syndromes, Sjogren’s Syndrome, Systemic Lupus, Severe Dermographism and some pretty nasty allergies (the kind where I need to carry an epi pen everywhere I go.)

I have been through the ringer with the pharmaceutical world, and I know what to do and not do in regards to what I put my body through; that was a painful lesson to learn.

I treat myself Holistically with a splash of Modern and a whole bunch of Ancient methods.

Some medications can and absolutely will affect your Magick, and fog your mind but there are times when medications serve their purpose and can actually help you.

When the mind is clear the practitioner can focus intent with better precision, and is that not the end goal of any adept?

I don’t think people should become dependent on medications or drugs for their ailments, be them spiritual or physical; I also don’t believe it makes us weak as people, or as practitioners if we have to rely on something to better our quality of life, and overall health.

Of course I believe that we should lead the healthiest lifestyles we can, and believe it or not I actually do lead a healthy lifestyle and still find myself stricken by these chronic conditions.

We need to listen to our bodies and minds in regards to health as much as we listen to our intuition in regards to Magick.

So many Witches practice under the rule that one must be calm with focused intent to cast, to some degree that is true. However, I have seen many Witches who CAN harness their madness and incorporate it into their Magick.

We are all individuals and should stop comparing and competing with each other so much.

Live and let live, live and let live.

I will end this saying, in most countries even to this day mental illness and/or chronic conditions are seen as a sign of spiritual enlightenment; too bad the West can’t adopt that theory and wish to over medicate instead.

Lessons in Magick: Common Misconceptions of the Craft, Part One

Courtney Brooke Hall

Image: Courtney Brooke Hall

“Indubitably, Magick is one of the subtlest and most difficult of the sciences and arts. There is more opportunity for errors of comprehension, judgement and practice than in any other branch of physics.”

Aleister Crowley

I am an observer by nature, I find that people watching is one of my favorite things to do, and human behavior is something that has fascinated me since I can remember; I always wanted to know what made people tick, and why—the why being most important to me.

My observations of life, and of people have carried over onto my spiritual path, one that because of my writing offers a wide variety of people for me to analyze, watch, and learn from. Seeing how my roots are in Social Media my playground has become a bottomless melting pot of sorts that I freely stir at will when a new subject is needed, or wanted.

Sounds kinda creepy, huh?

I want to know why people act and think, believe and perceive the way they do; I like to know what makes people laugh because you can tell SO much about someone by what they find funny. I want to know what has caused them to form their personal Philosophy, and I love to get into people’s heads. I think everyone is so much more fascinating than I am, leading their colorful lives full of comedy and tragedy.

An epiphany has just come to me as I write this: I like to people watch because it keeps me at a distance, and stops me from forming any real connection.

Shit.

Swerving away from that let me get to my point, because I observe so much, and I interact so much via my pages, I pick up thought patterns and it is in these thought patterns that I have been able to find a few common, very common might I say, misconceptions about the Craft. This is not only coming from outsiders, but from our Sisters and Brothers, too.

I am going to try and address these two issues in my own way (saving two more common issues for a later post) and I may not get it all correct but this is my standpoint on subjects that no one has ever really put out there. It is my intention to start conversation, or at least trigger thought, while cleaning up some of the muck in regards to definitions, labels, and our community.

Here we go…

Can you be Right Hand Path and Left Hand Path at the same time? This question comes quite frequently and it was recently brought back up when someone asked what I thought about “Luciferian Masons”. I laughed. I have said this next line more than I would like to in recent weeks but it must be said again, I come from a long line of Masons and Eastern Stars, recently inheriting a ritual book from 1943 that I am so proud, and blessed to have. I don’t claim to know everything about Masonry because, well, I am not a Mason, no matter what runs in my blood. I do know one thing and that is, Masonry is a form of Gnosticism, therefore it is RHP.

I know there are some who say that Mason’s true deity is Lucifer, out of misunderstanding and fear mongering (the Christian Devil Archetype), or that they believe Jesus Christ of the Bible to be Lucifer, while others claim it is the Baphomet; unless you have actually read THEIR text and not something off the internet, you will never really know that answer, and that is why Masonry is so secretive, and why so many lies surround the group.  People really just don’t know.

One truth remains though, they are Right Hand Path.

Luciferianism is an Esoteric Philosophy that falls on the Left Hand Path; no matter how you want to make these two fit together, no matter how you claim to be “more awake than the rest” or “see the bigger picture” when it comes to these two paths, they are mutually exclusive.

To put it simply:

You cannot be dominant, and submissive at the same time; you either are Left Hand Path or you are not, there is no duality in terms of these two Philosophies.

When I have explained this before people brought up the fact that I am a theist, and I am, but I do not worship. I do not look to my deities for answers, or problem solving, I do not look to them for issues that I can readily solve myself if I just go deep enough within. Have I called on deities and powers from beyond for help? Yes, as a Witch it is part of my Magick, but I do not worship these deities, I offer items to them and barter, when the deed is done they go back, and that is that.

Those who follow the RHP, worship. Those who follow the LHP, do not.

Both paths are equally important, and one does not trump the other but please for all that is holy and unholy, can we get them straight?

The idea of Karma vs. Free Will: This is an extremely gray area and one that sparks many heated debates whenever it is brought up. I can only speak from my perspective, and many of you will probably not agree with me, fun thing about that is, you don’t have to.

I do not believe in the Western idea of Karma which is, “what goes around comes around”. I think history has completely butchered and bastardized the word.

Let us define the Eastern idea of Karma, you know, where the word originates. I will link you to the full article at the bottom.

“Karma means action, means “to do”. Immediately we have an indication that the real meaning of karma is not fate because karma is action. It is dynamic. But it is more than simply action because it is not mechanical action. It is not unconscious or involuntary action. It is intentional, conscious, deliberate, willful action. How is it that this intentional, will action conditions or determines our situation? It is because every action must have a reaction, an effect. This truth has been expressed in regard to the physical universe by the great physicist Newton who formulated the law which states that every action must have an equal and opposite reaction. In the moral sphere of conscious actions, we have a counterpart to the physical law of action and reaction, the law that every intentional, will action must have its effect. This is why we sometimes speak either of Karma-Vipaka, intentional action and its ripened effect, or we speak of Karma-Phala, intentional action and its fruit. It is when we speak of intentional action together with its effect or fruit that we speak of the Law of Karma.”

Could one not take this definition and say, my will is for this outcome to happen, and if said action (your willful intent) causes said reaction (result) is that not Karma? Where does it say that the effects will COME BACK TO YOU, or effect anyone or anything negatively?

It does not.

So you see Karma in this definition IS Free Will.

Free Will being the idea that we govern ourselves, and have individual sovereignty thus we make our own decisions, we have willful intent. (See definition of Karma again)

When dealing with some forms of Magick (Wicca, specifically) it became a rule that one must not take over another’s Free Will, but in some instances, is that not all Magick is?

I do not agree with casting a Love Spell directly on someone, or using Magick to force someone to make a decision in your favor, things of that nature are not within my moral compass to do. I also believe that if you feed into the idea of Karma (Western style) then you must subscribe also to the idea of some omniscient being whom is dishing out retribution, and I do not follow that theory.

When we hex, compel with truth/glamour spells, or do binding spells, we are in fact taking away free will.

Example: You wish to bind someone from acting in a specific manner, from being in your life, or from doing harm to themselves/you, whomever. Well, if that person wishes to do those things, and your Magick stops them, then you have taken away their free will.

Make sense?

While the Western form of Karma and Free Will cannot co-exist, the true definition of Karma and Free Will can because in actuality, they are one in the same.

I want our community to be the best we can be, full of knowledge, understanding and compassion for our Sistren and Brethren, but that cannot happen if we do not open dialogue about issues that plague us, and do nothing but hinder our growth on a personal, and collective level.

Blessed are the Witches.

Lessons in Magick: Witchcraft Saved My Life

Daniel Waschnig

Image: Daniel Waschnig

“The first time I called myself a ‘Witch’ was the most magical moment of my life.”

Margot Adler

This blog has been brewing inside the cauldron of my mind for a while now; finally I am ready to put it all together and tell my story.

I found the inspiration for this piece during a session of insomnia and aimlessly flipping through early morning TV– full of infomercials and Christian’s proclaiming how this or that church/program and God saved their life.

I am anti-religion but I know that it’s a necessary evil in our world for some type of structured belief system to be put in place for society to work properly; sad but true.

The problem with this is that religion is used as a form of control, division and far too often the dumbing down of humanity.

Within the more conservative, orthodox, fundamental, and/or extremist sects (which seem to be all religion has become) people lose logical, critical thought processes and individual thinking; this is when the herd mentality is seen, and displayed negatively; not for nature’s intent of it being survival instinct.

I believe it’s a true sign of character to question authority; it shows courage, but society tells us it’s wrong, that we always have someone to answer to, there is always an authority figure.

Call me crazy but, I not only had the notion and concept of being equal to everyone well established as a kid, it was also one of the main lessons taught to me by my late Grandfather.

You can believe you are equal to everyone and not come off pretentious, elitist, superior or condescending; all you have to do is show some compassion and respect.

People have lost respect for themselves, for each other and for this planet; respect for yourself and others, along with seeing the bigger purpose of fighting for this planet will allow you to transcend and ascend.

A point missed by so many.

There is so much healing and deprogramming that must occur for the human mind and soul to understand and accept there is something outside of themselves. However, when you get down to the bare bones of Magick you will come to the realization that YOU are all you will ever need; you never truly have to look outside yourself because everything and everyone is a reflection of you; the universe is inside of you as you are a inside it.

Religion has many dark sides, the main being that people fail to rely on themselves and take personal responsibility.

Nothing saddens me more than when people give credit for their hard work to God.

Such as, “I beat Cancer, God is good”—I am sure it had nothing to do with the 10+ years of schooling your Oncologist and team of Doctors went through.

My favorite recently was an acquaintance who had gastric bypass surgery to lose weight and practice a healthier lifestyle. I tip my hat to her.

If you are unfamiliar with the process, it’s not easy to get approved for this surgery and you need to show weight loss on your own, through diet and exercise before they will rubber band your stomach; I say it like that because no one wants to talk about the roots of the problem which are our appalling food industry, lack of fresh fruits and vegetables (at affordable costs) for those on and below the poverty line, and emotional binge eating–they only want to talk about the end product, “fat people” and how to shame them.

Needless to say 3 months after her surgery she looks and (assuming) feels fantastic but her posts on fb made me want to bash my head into a wall: “God is good, look at this weight loss.” Or “Won’t He do it, down another 20 pounds!”

Yes, because that is exactly what happened, God was so busy ignoring all the other woes, and ills of this world that he helped you with your weight loss, and had absolutely nothing to do with modern science, your strong will, and the drastic personal changes in your lifestyle.

Nope. It was all God.

The point I am trying to make is that I see testimonials of how Christianity or God saved someone, or helped someone along; I see praise being given time and time again to a Divine being, but never, or rarely do I see someone give some credit to themselves without being torn down by other’s who don’t understand that it is okay to pat yourself on the back, and give credit where credit is due.

There are stories galore about how Christianity saved people from other belief systems, addiction, bad situations, etc.

In fact, I recently read an article about a lovely Woman (much sarcasm) who gave a disgusting representation of the Craft, and said that her experience with Witches is what made her become a Christian. So much ran through my mind in that moment, what could have possibly happened within the craft to make this Woman run to a religion that has done nothing but persecute us, and everyone else that is not of their faith?

Fun Fact: A majority of “Witches” executed during Puritan Witch Trials were Christian, the actual Witches had fled to “New Salem” aka New Orleans when the Witch hunts began, or they found seclusion, solitude, and safety in the deep woods.

To put it simply, Christians were killing Christians.

Shocker.

I am going to say it loud and proud, Witchcraft saved my life.

The Craft helped me heal and understand my physical and mental illnesses, it saved me from many dangerous situations, it has allowed me to heal and hex, it has granted me a level of self-awareness I cannot put into words but most importantly, it saved me from myself.

Without Magick, I would be dead, and this is not something that’s questioned, or exaggerated, it is fact.

The thing with Magick is that it doesn’t come naturally or easily; when I say it doesn’t come naturally I mean that we have to put in work–I believe in natural Witches.

We are tested, brought to our limits and beyond; thrown into the Abyss where we learn to swim, or get swallowed up.

Magick itself is a test, it’s a challenge; those who choose to step on this path are tested by deities and Spirits we work with.

Often times though, the hardest test comes from the depths of our own psyche.

We lose concepts of comfort and security which are falsely placed anyways; we lose everything we thought we knew, everything we thought we loved, and all we can do is put the faith in ourselves, and our Craft that we will survive–that in our metaphorical death there will be purpose and rebirth.

I lost everything, quite literally, everything.

Once I truly devoted myself to Magick it was like a switch was flicked, a light had been turned on and suddenly the illusion that I had been living in, the lies I had been telling myself were seen for what they were: self-destructive behavior and suppressing my Magick.

I knew my Magick was there, I had experienced things since I was a kid, dabbling since I was 5, but I never fully embraced my Witch, I ran from her, she scared me; it took me years to face her and embrace her as part of my whole.

The process was the most painful thing I have ever experienced in my life, but not a day goes by where I am not grateful for that pain; through suffering comes understanding.

I grow every day, I change every day, and I learn every day.

I am constantly evolving, constantly moving forward, seeking knowledge, and challenging myself.

It hasn’t been easy, and it isn’t easy now, but I have never experienced such life altering, mind blowing, soul shattering experiences before, and they continue to manifest in the most glorious ways.

Once your inner Witch awakens there is no denying her/him; you can suppress it for so long before the Universe will force your hand.

Once you have seen Magick, I mean, really seen Magick, there is no going back.

And, why would you want to?

Blessed Are The Witches.

“Chaos is what we’ve lost touch with. This is why it is given a bad name. It is feared by the dominant archetype of our world, which is Ego, which clenches because its existence is defined in terms of control.”

Terence McKenna

I’m not going to make any friends with post, for that I am sure; I guess it is a good thing I don’t write to make friends, I write to make people think. I sometimes feel that I think so much, about every single thing possible, so that others don’t have to. It’s like, if I analyze it, rip it apart, drive myself mad and tell of my findings, it may save another the pain. It takes a certain person to be able to exist in Chaos and I thrive in Chaos because it flows in my veins, while most dissipate into it.

I am going to write about some things that have been on my mind for a very long time, and I have written about them in the past but I didn’t do the topics any justice, or myself for that matter. I know that writing about the Occult I open myself up to criticism, and others opinions. I will usually debate, and I will always hear another’s opinion on the matter, we are all experiencing this world differently, and to deny listening to another is like denying them to tell their story.

I will never deny anyone the right to speak their truth.

I am going to speak some truth that many of you will probably not like, or deny all together, maybe you have never thought about it to begin with, or maybe you will know exactly what I mean. It is my hope, my intention that this piece will open your mind, and allow you to look deep within yourself. Allow yourself to get back to the roots of Magick because our community has gone far off track.

Because I do not want to come off as if I have a superiority complex, or that I am trying to tell anyone how to be, or whatever, I am going to tell you my story on the subject of ego and other Pagans/Witches/Otherkin. I am not at all innocent in allowing ego to take over, and I have experienced obnoxious amounts from other people. So, I have seen, literally felt, both sides.

This morning there was a situation that left me disappointed in a fellow Sister Witch, and I became so angry that I could not allow my Beast to stay inside, so here she sits with me to write this piece. I will not go into details about the situation but it had to do with ego, and a paranoid fear. While I understand why my Sister felt this way, her reaction and her Sister Witch’s reaction was uncalled for, and not how we should conduct ourselves.

I get it, if anyone gets ego, or fear, it’s me. If you have followed my writing since the beginning you have seen me call people out, and strut my stuff, as if I was the baddest in town. The Universe, however, did not find my display entertaining and made sure that I did not do it again. I have been that Witch who has made fun of Wiccans for being “light and fluffy” or “fluff bunnies”. I have been the one who dismisses others opinions because I thought I knew best. There is nothing that I have not experienced in regards to ego, and allowing it to take root in my mind.

I shut it out now, though. There is no room for ego on my path, it is simply not part of my journey.

There is pride, and that is something else entirely. Maybe another time, another post.

Let me get to the point..

Here are the issues we are facing as a community, and I am going to bring them to the surface because I am sick and tired of running into them at every corner. First, let me say that making fun of Wiccans, or any other belief, is unacceptable behavior, we should handle ourselves better, and it is the very intolerance that we experience from society. We cannot allow an eye for an eye mentality become the norm, we are better than that.

Gandhi said, “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.”

We should not power ourselves with insults, we must power ourselves with knowledge, and know our craft. So, if there is a point to defend ourselves our Magick and defenses are top notch. The truth is, when we insult, make fun of, or belittle another, no matter how funny or how true the statement may be, it says more about us and our weak insecurities than it does about them.

Second, fear of Magickal attacks from fellow Witches seems to be a common theme. I want to bring some of you back to a level mind on this topic. A true Magickal attack is not easy to do, it takes skill, determination and true, pure intentions. This is not something that is a common occurrence, but it seems to be a common fear. Yes, we are at risk from spirit we work with, but to walk around defensive of every Witch and/or Otherkin we come across is not productive, and if we continue like this we will never learn anything, and we will always be alone.

To those who do use their Magick for attacks, big or small, that is not what Witchcraft is. I practice dark arts, and there is just as much healing, and support for other Witches as there is hexing, cursing, and the like. Magick should be something personal for you, not a skill you learn to harm other people. Get it?

We, Pagans, Satanists, Luciferians, Witches, Wiccans, Occultists, Otherkin, Heathens, Heretics, and any other label or non-label you can think of, are already ostracized by society. We already walk a lonely path, and while it may be hard to find someone who thinks exactly like we do, we can find likeminded individuals who help us grow. We can find others who know what it’s like to be made fun of, or ridiculed for having a non-conventional Philosophy. We can build a support system so that in times of stress, pain, and suffering we have counsel, we have protection, we have love and we have support.

But, we don’t do that, we don’t trust other people. Everyone thinks everyone else is fake, “fluffy”, or is out to get someone else, and blah blah blah.

None of this has to do with Magick, all of this gossip has to do with HUMAN insecurity coming through and using Magick as the guise. Only those insecure in themselves, their Magick, their shields, their defense, and their energy reading ability would walk around constantly scared of Magickal attack.

I know because I used to be like this, but now I am not. I took a long, deep look in the mirror, I faced my demons, I worked on my craft, I studied, I practiced, and I shed bled, and tears. This is the only way to freedom, you must shed your old self.

Let’s all take a collective deep breath.

Spiritual attacks are real, and I am in no way down playing them, but not every Witch you meet is out to get you, or strong enough to do so anyways. Come on guys, like I said, we can do better. We have to do better, it is our Magick that is going to save this place, but none of us can do it alone.

The next topic I want to discuss is ego. I have fell victim to this, and I was left embarrassed and disgusted by my behavior. I am here to help people, and nothing more. I want to write about my experiences in order for everyone to be as free as I am. When ego came into my life it wasn’t about the grand scheme of things anymore, it was about me, and there is no me. I am everything and nothing, I am the Alpha and Omega, I am the darkness and light. I am part of the cosmos, and to put myself before my soul’s purpose is something I cannot do.

Ego feels good, it is a momentary satisfaction but that is all that it is, a moment in time. It does nothing but make the other person feel like shit just to build yourself up. As someone who has played both roles, I can say that this is no way to be.

The thing I want to really say is, we have to start accepting others for who they are. We cannot accept them with conditions, or if they fit into a mold, we must be willing to accept all those who wish to walk this path. I can say that nothing has been more rewarding than my spiritual journey, and if I can help others find the strength to start forging their own then my job here is done.

We are all different, no two of us are alike, and that in and of itself is a fucking beautiful thing. If we do not begin to do better we will not be better, and if we can’t be better than what are we doing on this stupid rock to begin with?
