THE SUMMER OF OUR DISCONTENT, PART II: Sagittarius Full Moon & Eclipse Season

**This article was written by The Nephilim Rising’s Astrologer, Emily O’Keeffe.**

Welcome back to our Summer of Discontent 2020.

In my last post I talked about Pluto retrograde, which is still happening, and bringing up quite a bit of humanity’s more repulsive characteristics.

Since then a few other astrological things have happened as well.

Jupiter, Saturn and Venus have all gone retrograde and are in the Underworld with Pluto helping to shine light on our shadowy parts so we can illuminate and integrate them.

But, today I want to talk about eclipses.

Eclipse

Eclipse season is here folks.

There is a lot to talk about here so this will be in two parts. I also don’t want to overwhelm, we are all dealing with quite a bit already. Susan Miller, a veteran Astrologer, has a great article on her site Astrology Zone, on how to deal with eclipses. I highly recommend reading it, there are many good tips and she explains eclipses very well.

However, for this article, there are a couple of things you need to know.

The first thing I want to talk about it is how eclipses function. They are felt on both a personal level and also on a greater societal level.

Eclipses are the wild card of astrology, like The Tower card in tarot. Also like the Tower card, eclipse energy is energy that is outside of our personal control and energy that happens TO us. Because of that, it is really best to not to instigate any big changes or moves at eclipse time.

The reason being, you have to expect the unexpected.

Sometimes you do have to do things because you really don’t have another choice and then you just gotta do what you gotta do. But still expect the unexpected.

The second thing you need to know about eclipses is that some people will feel certain eclipses more than others.

One will feel it most if the eclipse hits certain sensitive points in one’s natal chart, like personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars) and angles (Ascendant/Descendant/IC/MC).

For instance, let’s say your Ascendant is at 15 degrees Sagittarius or within 5 degrees; this upcoming eclipse at 15 degrees Sagittarius will affect you pretty personally, as the Ascendant and the 1st house represent you. If it was on your Descendant, which is opposite your Ascendant and the beginning of the 7th house and represents “the other” and partnerships; something in your life regarding those life experiences will be affected. If it hits your personal planets, that aspect of your personality will be affected. The closer in degrees to the eclipse the more you will feel it.

Third, eclipses happen in families of signs. What do I mean by that you ask?

They are signs directly opposite of one another; for instance Aries and Libra.

They are opposite ends the energy spectrum.

Aries represents ‘I’ and Libra represents ‘We’.

Aries is a Fire sign and Libra is an Air sign, they compliment each other.

Fire (action) needs Air (ideas) to burn.

Air (ideas) without Fire (action) just floats around and never really manifests anything. The family of signs we have been experiencing eclipses in for the last couple of years is the Cancer/Capricorn axis.

Cancer is a Water sign and represents, home, family, and the inner emotional life and Capricorn is an Earth sign representing stability and achievement in the outer material world.

However, we are in the middle of an eclipse family change, we are moving into the Gemini/Sagittarius family. It’s not a completely abrupt change, it crosses over each other.

So, this eclipse season we will have 3 in a row, typically they happen in pairs.

The first will be a full Moon lunar eclipse at 15 degrees Sagittarius on June 5th, the second will be a new Moon solar eclipse at 0 degrees Cancer on June 21, and the third will be another full Moon lunar eclipse at 13 degrees Capricorn on July 5th.

After the lunar eclipse in Capricorn, that family of eclipses will be done and we will move into the Gemini/Sagittarius family.

Fire

I want to talk mostly about the Gemini/Sagittarius family of eclipses. Especially since that is the energy and theme of the eclipses for the next couple of years.

It is the axis of reason vs intuition, knowledge vs wisdom, data vs the big picture, primary school vs higher learning, local vs foreign.

June 5th 2020, there will be a Full Moon lunar eclipse at 15 degrees Sagittarius.

Full Moons already tend to be emotional times. If you don’t believe in the chaotic power of the full Moon, you probably don’t have children or pets or work with the general pubic, otherwise you know what I’m talking about. Shit gets crazy at full Moons.

Full Moon eclipses, are like a full Moon on steroids!

It’s SUPER emotional and unpredictable and it has that energy all by itself.

But wait… There’s more.

Emma

We are going to add in a few more aspects of energy thanks to retrograde Venus conjunct the Sun in Gemini and Mars at 15 degrees Pisces, these all form what astrologers call a T-square.

I know you’re probably saying, “ok cool, now please tell us what all that means…”

We have the Sun energy and Venus energy fused together, but Venus is currently retrograde, meaning she is in her underworld right now and showing some darker sides of herself. One of those dark sides is that her famous diplomacy and charm ranges from not very strong to non-existent right now, and that makes for some very, ‘IDGAF-about-hurting-your-feelings’ kind of energy.

So, we have that energy and the full Moon eclipse energy in opposition of each other, and now let’s throw in Mars, the aggression, anger and war planet!

Mars will be 90 degrees to the Sun/Venus conjunction and full Moon eclipse. That’s where the square part comes in.

In astrology, a 90 degree angle is called a square aspect. The energy does not flow together well. It’s very uncomfortable, it causes irritation and friction.

But, they do make things happen. It’s an aspect of action because its super uncomfortable until you deal with it.

So, basically the emotional Moon is going to be on the opposite spectrum of the cranky ‘IDAF’ Sun/Venus and Mars is going to step in and go, “LET’S FIGHT!!!! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!”

**fists pumping in the air**

Fun times.

In fact, we are already seeing this energy in action right now in our larger society.

That’s another interesting thing about eclipses. The energy doesn’t just happen at the exact time of the mathematical eclipse. It functions more like seasons do.

Yes, there is a calendar date of the season change, but just because the calendar says its spring doesn’t mean that the weather will cooperate.

Astrology energy is the same, its ‘about time’ for this energy to be happening.

So, given that the eclipse is in a few days, yeah we are already seeing this energy in action. I would like to point out that the Mars instigator energy is in Pisces currently. Pisces is a very nebulous sign, things are never what they appear to be with Pisces. Keep that in mind when looking for the instigators of the current chaos in our world.

Don’t forget to watch for these themes in your personal life as well. This energy will be active for months afterward.

We will be having our eclipses in the Gemini/Sagittarius family for the next couple of years. It won’t be like it is right now for that whole time, so not to worry.

But, we will see these same themes of data vs big picture, reason vs intuition, etc. for the next few years in the form of eclipse season.

As for the other two eclipses that will follow the June 5th one, I will save that for another time.

We have enough on our plates to deal with for now.

LESSONS FROM THE STARS: A Survival Guide to Eclipse Season

“Astrology is assured of recognition from psychology, without further restrictions, because astrology represents the summation of all the psychological knowledge of antiquity.”

C.G. Jung

I don’t know about any of you, but for myself this Eclipse season has been BRUTAL.

If I am being completely honest, Cancer season was particularly rocky this year, too.

So, it’s been a solid 2 months of just balls to the wall MADNESS.

I for one am over it.

The Universe, however, has other plans.

We are at the mercy of the cosmos right now.

And, don’t hit me with “We create our own reality” because I follow that Philosophy, but currently there is no creating my reality; it’s being written before my eyes as the planets and stars seemingly collide.

Let’s not forget that Saturn, Pluto, Neptune, Mars and Mercury are ALL Retrograde.

Only adding more chaos to our inner and outer world’s.

Saturn: Defining your boundaries and work ethic

Pluto: Spending time with your darkness

Neptune: Waking up and facing reality

Mars: Learning how to fight for your desires

Mercury: Communication breakdown, anger and anxiety

Plus, we’re in the middle of Leo Season, and the Lion’s Gate officially opens today.

The final (partial) Solar Eclipse during a Super New Moon in the sign of Leo coming up on the 11th is going to ease things a bit, but if the card I pulled this morning regarding the Eclipse is an indicator of things to come, we are in for a harsh awakening:

The Tower.

Baron

For many people the Tower is one of the most feared cards in Tarot, and in some cases that fear is warranted.

Who likes change?

Not me.

I hate quick, forced, harsh change; all change is hard, but I am talking about the kind where it’s just a shock to the system, you have no fucking clue it’s coming until it’s already happened.

This can be good or bad, as with all things, but the Tower *always* represents change, breaking of old patterns, and sudden realization, among other things.

Read more about the Tower, here.

So, are you freaking out yet?

Don’t fret.

Here are some tips on how I survive crazy cosmic events like what we’ve been experiencing.

Survival

STAY GROUNDED: This is important always, but during Eclipse season when change is dancing all around us, it’s paramount to be grounded and present. It’s easy to let our minds drift off and become distracted but we must stay grounded in our current reality because we are still in rough waters with fire energy closing in around us. To read more about my tips for grounding, click here.

PROTECT THYSELF: Protecting ourselves is an essential self-care practice, especially for Witches. I don’t know about you, but for myself, fucked up people have been seeking me out, and clinging to me like the psychic vampires they are. Then, there are other people who are so blind with jealousy and ego that they make their attempts to attack blatantly obvious. It’s a Spiritual war out here. We must take appropriate measures; draw boundaries, cut out toxic people and situations from our lives, no matter how bad it hurts. Take Spiritual baths or showers at least once a week, but as often as you can is fine. Cleanse your phone, and most used items (purse, jacket, bag, shoes, jewelry, etc) with sage, palo santo or other consecration herb of choice. Make sure to re-ward yourself and your home, too. These Retrogrades are bringing out the worst in some people and they seek out our light to distinguish it; don’t let them. To read more about my protection tips, click here.

STAY HYDRATED: During this massive heatwave it’s super important to stay hydrated, during cosmic events it’s even more important. Water is a carrier; it holds vibrations. Plus, it’s essential for our bodies to function properly; it helps our organs function, rids the body of toxins, and keeps our skin looking young, and glowing (among a million other benefits). Carrying water with you and speaking a short incantation (even silently) before taking a sip can help calm you, it can cleanse your energy field of negative energy; think of it like an internal Spiritual bath. Add crystals (usually quartz crystals are safest) and fruits, or herbs to give yourself added Magick on the go.

LISTEN TO MUSIC: I am a lover of music, always have been. Do you know what loves music more than I do? OUR CHAKRAS. Music is a form of sound therapy, especially if we have an emotional connection to the songs we are listening to. The music does not have to be Spiritual in nature, it can be whatever gets you feeling good, whatever gets you moving. Music by itself will help clear and re-balance our Chakras, but when we add movement, we re-connect to ourselves, and etheric body.

EAT FEEL GOOD FOOD: What we put into our bodies to fuel us is super important, especially as Magickal practitioners. During Eclipse season you want to eat a lot of fruits, veggies, and high vibe, colorful foods; make sure to add spices and herbs where you can, and always look for ways to cut out foods containing excessive amounts of sugar. Nurture your body with foods that make YOU feel your best, and work at your best level. This is not a time to be hitting up the McD’s drive-thru; comfort your body with nutrients as you would comfort your Soul with meditation.

GET OUT IN NATURE: This is easier said than done right now, particularly because the heat index is crazy across more than half of the country. Even if you just go sit out in your garden for a few minutes in the early morning, and evening when the heat isn’t quite as intense. Or, go for a walk to the park, take a walk around your neighborhood/apartment complex. Find a way in your urban jungle. Then, find a spot where you can take your shoes off and get on the grass; this is two-fold, it grounds you and re-connects you to Mother. Nature is the best Spiritual cleanser in existence.

I know that nothing mentioned here is particularly special but, they are important reminders during a time when our minds seem to be scattered in a million pieces.

The lessons we are being forced to endure, and the changes we are being forced to accept are opening doors to huge opportunities, and new beginnings.

Embrace what’s to come.

Remember, destruction is a form of creation.

We got this.

You got this.

You are not alone.

ALL PATHS LEAD TO HERE: A Lesson From a Bodhisattva

“With me, illusions are bound to be shattered. I am here to shatter all illusions. Yes, it will irritate you, it will annoy you – that’s my way of functioning and working. I will sabotage you from your very roots! Unless you are totally destroyed as a mind, there is no hope for you.”

Osho

I have always battled with the idea of pre-destiny because this concept then leads to a bunch of questions that I simply cannot answer and for my Luciferian mind, I need answers.

Who is behind predestination? Is it an Omniscient power, if so, I do not subscribe to that idea; where, then, am I to be? Where is my place?

Why do I feel such deep resonation in the core of my being when I hear certain Sacred Chants, practice particular Mudras and hold trinkets in my hands that tell me stories which only further deepen my feelings of déjà vu?

There have been and continues to be moments in my life that are filled with so much synchronicity that it is hard to deny that I am exactly where I need to be.

The Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse is going to be potent tonight because it is the Harvest Moon, in the middle of Eclipse Season in the sign of Pisces, during Mercury Retrograde when the wheel is turning during a year that has proven to be full of change; both positive and negative. I guess the number 9 is really living up to its reputation.

This year (2+0+1+6 = 9) is a number of completion and with all the deaths that completion has a feeling of sorrow, and finality with it but as we approached this Moon I could feel a sense of hope beginning to blossom; a feeling that I have not felt in a very long time.

I have been feeling this change for several years now but it was chaotic in origin and I thought it had peaked last year.

As a matter of fact, it was the SUPER POWERFUL Blood Moon/Eclipse around this time last year that I had a really good session of Magick. I came out of that casting feeling prepared for the new chapter, and ready to let go of so much—of so many.

But, we weren’t ready, yet. And so this year began with a bang both literal and metaphorical and it has been bang after bang, blow after blow ever since.

This year has been full of ups and downs, trials and tribulations; actual blood, sweat and tears.

For me personally, I lost my Grandmother in April, a death that hit and continues to hit hard. I mended the relationship with most of my family, shockingly, that includes my Father.

I saw him briefly last weekend when I went away; I initially went in to babysit my niece but then my Father called and wanted to take me out to lunch. Instant panic. I listened to my gut and I went, and that was one of the realist conversations I have ever in my 32 years of life had with him.  I was able to say things that I needed to say for YEARS; I was able to be as frank, sassy and witty as I am with everyone else and he took it in stride with a smirk on his face and actually listened.

Maybe he sees the error of his ways now that the wisdom of old age seems to be setting in. Maybe the loss of his Mother made him see life for what it is. Maybe his own mortality and fragile body have awakened him; whatever the reason, healing the Father Wound has been one of the most profound things to happen to me. Especially for it to come just one week after being published, and before this Moon.

It’s times like these that I know the Universe has my back, that the Universe hears me and that I am really not alone.

There are few things in life more satisfying that being able to fully write and close a chapter and move on and/or forward. So satisfying that I cannot find anything to compare it to.

I can see the proverbial door that I am supposed to walk through; we are all going to walk through it.

This Moon is a portal– a new chapter for us. It is very important to be mindful of our words and thoughts today because what we manifest during this time will foretell our upcoming year….years.

I have been getting a lot of number sequences lately; the ones hitting hardest are 10, 111, 444, and 555.

I have also been getting hit with a lot of visions. There have been messages via various Spirit Animals as well, including Crows, Cardinals, Blue Jays, Dragonflies, Snakes and of course, the Dreamweaver: Grandmother Spider.

There have been many strange occurrences happening in my life and all I can say about those is they have been out of this world fucking weird; I don’t want to go into detail because some of this is for me to keep close to my heart.

I will tell you about the statue, though.

As many of you know, I love Eastern Traditions and mythology; I am very much influenced by the Hindu Pantheon, have been drawn specifically to the area of Tibet, and have collected Buddha and Elephant statues (very specific ones) for years.

It seems that I find Buddha when I am happy, or content—when serendipity and synchronicity dance arm in arm.

It’s no surprise then that I have not stumbled across him in many years.

The usual version I find is the chubby, laughing Buddha, though I do have young Buddha as well. My rule is that I do not want him as a gift, only if I come across him and he calls to me.

A few weeks ago while out shopping one weekend with my Mom I stopped at a local Antique shop we frequent and found some really good items. I came home with a set of old, iron candlestick holders, a set of shelves that are from early 19th century that were actually made in my hometown (I live about 2 hours away now), a very old sun wheel type of statue, and the Bronze statue pictured below. (I know, he has to be cleaned, and polished.)

20160916_102549

I didn’t know who the statue was, and I didn’t know it was a Buddha; I actually thought it was from the Hindu Pantheon. And so I put him on my altar with the other Hindu and Egyptian deities where he seemed to just fit right in.

The rest of the day was filled with weird moments, including a ghost at another Antique Shop we went in and running into some strong Witches at my local Witch Shop. The owner, a wonderful Crone, playfully tested me and my knowledge. It was a way for us to say “I see you”.

I didn’t figure out who this statue was until last week, and didn’t put the pieces together until this morning.

“Mañjuśrī, Manjushri is the oldest and most significant bodhisattva in Mahāyāna literature. Manjushri is a Bodhisattva who represents wisdom, and his mantra also symbolizes that quality. He holds a sword in his right hand — symbolizing his ability to cut through delusion/illusion. In his left hand, by his heart, he holds the stem of a lotus flower, which bears a book — the Perfection of Wisdom teaching, or Prajnaparamita.

“Also depicted displaying the Jnana Mudra or Gyan Mudra. This is the most common yogic mudra used in meditation. In Sanskrit, the word ‘Jnana’ means knowledge or wisdom and ‘mudra’ means sign or gesture. It literally means the psychic gesture of Knowledge or wisdom.

“Manjushri is the embodiment of all the Buddha’ wisdom. The word manju means “charming, beautiful, pleasing” and Shri means “glory, brilliance”. The Bodhisattva is regarded as the crown prince of Buddhist teachings, or the one who can best explain the Buddhist wisdom, that is able to extinguish afflictions and bring about enlightenment. Manjushri has this title because eons ago, he was the instructor for seven different Buddha’, the last being Sakyamuni Buddha.”

One of the reasons alarm bells (in a good sense) went off when I read this was because he taught 7 other Buddha’– 7 is not only my Life Path number but it has been significant in my life. Another reason that I smiled at the Universe and its message via this statue was because it says he was the “one who could best explain the teachings”.

I cannot tell you how many times people have told me that they love my writings because I say and explain what they can’t seem to do, and I say it in a way that it makes sense to everyone.

I think I am just rambling.

Other points I noticed: I have been drawn to the lotus flower since I was a child, even getting matching lotus tattoos with my Mom to symbolize our rise from the mud of our past. The Lion is one my Totem Animals. And, I am a writer which seems to by default put me in a position of also being an educator.

The point I am getting at is that I am beginning to believe we really do have an end destination and it seems to be pre-destined, and that no matter which way we go along the way, all paths will lead to it.

The signs are all around us.

Catholicism led to me seek out all religions, which is how Hinduism found me, which led me to the Left Hand Path, which then led me to Luciferianism, which has now led me to Buddhism.

And it seems that with each new path the lesson for me remains the same: stay true to yourself, teach and learn as you go, seek yourself by going within when you are lost, and be a beacon for those who have yet to find the light.

Be a beacon for those who have yet to discover that they are the light.

Enlightenment through the service of others; liberation in the acknowledgement of it all.

I am a child of the stars and the lessons in this life are just as endless…
